Brian Harney BA (Hons), MBS, PhD (Cambridge), MCIPD is Senior Lecturer in Strategic HRM at DCU Business School, Deputy Director (SMEs) of the LInK Research Institute, and Programme Director of the MSc in HRM (gradIreland Best Postgraduate Business Course, 2016). Brian is an Academic Member of the Chartered Institute for Personnel Development, a Fellow of the Cambridge European Society and a recipient of the Guinness/Irish Management Institute Sir Charles Harvey Medal. In 2015 Brian was the overall recipient of the DCU President’s award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, having previously won the new lecturer category award. Brian’s research has received over 15 Best Paper awards and has been published in the Human Resource Management Journal, International Journal of Human Resource Management and Advances in Industrial and Labor Relations. He is the author of three books including Strategy and Strategists (Oxford University Press) and an edited collection Strategic HRM: Research and Practice in Ireland (Blackhall/Orpen). Brian has experience in strategy and HR consulting and is a member of the executive education team at DCU where he has delivered onto programmes for clients such as Enterprise Ireland, Bank of Ireland, Boston University, Invest Northern Ireland and the Irish Stock Exchange. Brian currently serves as the Irish Ambassador for the HR Division of the American Academy of Management and is an Academic Fellow of the Centre for International HRM, University of Cambridge. He has held visiting positions at the University of Renmin, and CUEB in China, at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and at Queen’s University Belfast, and was a visiting Research Fellow at Boston University (May-June 2016). Brian sits on the editorial board of the International Journal of Human Resource Management, Employee Relations and the Irish Journal of Management. Previously a PLATO group leader (2011-2014), Previous external examiner appointments include Carlow Institute of Technology and the Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia. Brian serves as an elected Board Member for the European Academy of Management, Council Member of the Irish Academy of Management and Judge for the HR Leadership Awards (Ireland) and the annual Gov HR Summit (GCC).
